Update August 1, 2013- Danny Meyer’s Unions Square Hospitality Group has not yet signed on to be the provider of juices and sandwiches at this Equinox, despite having such deals with other Equinox gyms. A USHG spokeserson replied, “We are not certain about that location at this time.” A Brookfield spokesperson replied, “I’m not able to confirm that. You may want to reach out to Equinox as they may be able to answer.”
Of note, Brookfield Place has signed tenants that will directly compete with USHG’s restaurants across the street. Mighty Quinn will compete with Blue Smoke, and Umami Burger will compete with Shake Shack.
July 24, 2013- Many moons ago, Goldman Sachs closed the NY Sports Club gym in the old Embassy Suites and left the community high and dry. Brookfield is making amends, according to Crain’s, bringing in, “Equinox has just joined a growing list of tenants who have committed to the revamped retail space at Brookfield Place. The gym will take 35,000 square feet on the second and third floors of the complex. To date, Brookfield Properties has successfully attracted a number of top-line luxury retailers including Hermes and Burberry, as well as restaurant and food tenants.”
Of note, Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality has juice shops within Equinox gyms, and has three restaurants near Brookfield. Also, how will Asphalt Green and Manhattan Youth be impacted?
