Update September 30, 2013- Do these candidates have no money left? Why are there no TV ads? The election is tomorrow.
September 28, 2013- The WSJ is giving some publicity to the ignored run-off election for City Advocate, between Dan Squadron and Tish James, “An under-the-radar special election will decide whether New York City Council Member Letitia “Tish” James or state Sen. Daniel Squadron will be the Democratic nominee for public advocate….The difference in the Oct. 1 special election could be even smaller. Both campaigns say anywhere from 100,000 to 250,000 registered Democrats, many of them party loyalists who vote in every election, could cast ballots in the race…..It is likely that the winner—who is all but guaranteed to prevail in the general election, because there is no Republican challenger and only a few minor third-party candidates—will be decided by which campaign organizes the better get-out-the-vote effort…..Despite its relatively low profile, the race has grown bitter. During Tuesday’s televised debate, Ms. James referenced Mr. Squadron’s “trust fund,” saying that he catered to the city’s wealthy elites. (Mr. Squadron and his family invested with convicted Ponzi scheme operator Bernard Madoff and lost most of their inheritance.)”
The headline is misleading. Squadron isn’t “fighting for his political life”. He gets to keep his State Senate seat if he loses.
Good point, will change title
