This afternoon, a local couple (man, woman) who live on Rector Place approached NYPD officers dealing with a traffic matter to inform them of crime they had observed. According to the woman, she has observed teens “selling crack” on the basketball courts and Rector Street pedestrian bridge. She claims to have seen empty crack pipes as well.

Prior to this, the Rector Park grass lawn has been a favorite location for the same teens, who go to school in FiDi, to smoke marijuana  almost daily. Despite the predictability of the problem, and being informed of it, the PEP officers refuse to patrol the area in a preemptive manner.

Recall, last year, a mother was mugged by an organized gag of thieves while she was playing basketball with her young son on the courts by the Rector bridge.

    Steve,

Why doesn’t your article heading read “on the basketball courts and Rector Street pedestrian bridge” in synch with the article itself. Why don’t you also include Rector Street Park in your description/discussion?

    To Bob

I do mention the pot smoking in the park. Also, in my next article “Tear down the Rector Street Bridge” I mention the crime in the parks. In this article, you see how I included at the bottom the link to “Violent crime in West Thames park, and no PEP in sight”.

If you want to make a difference, you need to attend the NYPD community meeting on Thursday April 24th.
