050714_wills_emk_007.JPGMay 7, 2014- The Post reports that the NY AG Eric Schneiderman made an arrest of an alleged crooked City Councilman for stealing for a non-profit 501c he ran. This is interesting for a couple of reasons.

First, the AG made the arrest, rather than the FBI. Mr. Schiederman is up for re-election, and other local elected officials can expect to see more of these “Perp Walks”.

Also, abuses of non-profits are so common in New York that people running them convince themselves that they are not doing anything wrong. This arrest is a shot across to bow to the vast majority of politicians who are running non-profits to launder money.

The article states, “Wills, a former aide to ex-state Sen. Shirley Huntley, who was convicted in another not-for-profit scam. The councilman is also being probe for steering funds to another non profit group, the Young Leaders Institute.”
