May 21, 2014- BatteryPark.TV viewers have posted comments of concern about small children being allowed to sit at bars while the parents drink. This is a growing phenomenon. In Brooklyn, one popular bar is doing something. They have banned kids, the Post reports.
Update May 18, 2015- The Post reports, “Kristian Jensen, 46, and his wife, Lauren, 37, who live in Manhattan, were pounding drinks when the tipsy mom dropped the 2-year-old girl at around 6:24 p.m., according to police.
A person at the bar witnessed the father passed out as the mom fumbled for the child, sources said. When the duo encountered cops in the lobby, they were both “highly intoxicated” and two plastic cups that reeked of alcohol were in the child’s stroller, law enforcement sources said.
Lauren stumbled and fell to the lobby floor while her husband charged at police officers, the sources said. Both were taken to the hospital because of their intoxication. The child, too, was checked out by doctors.
The Jensens were charged with resisting arrest, acting in a manner injurious to a child under 17, and obstructing governmental administration.”
I emphatically agree with the banning of kids & their families from pubs/bars. I’m from Park SLope, and it literally is an epidemic. And lest you think I’m some 27 year old hipster, I’m actually a 51 year old father of 2 who NEVER would have my kids at a bar. It’s not fair to the other patrons who then feel a real or imagined need to censor themselves.
As Reese Witherspoon exclaimed” you have a baby..at a bar? ”
I walked by the restaurant across from the Irish memorial (one over from El Vez) last weekend and my friend exclaimed “the dog is eating at the table”
Stunned I looked over and there was a BIG black/white dog sitting on this guys lap and it’s paws were on the table (no tablecloth)
Pity the fool Who sits at that seat next
