November 14, 2014- The Pier-A plaza that cost more than $6 Million, and is years behind schedule, finally opened. The adjacent restaurant will not be able to open until the New York Supreme Court decides the fate of the liquor license.
The internal “visitor center” is also still up in the air. Poulakaos wants to make it a coffee shop with three iPad kiosks, to be operated by the Downtown Alliance. The New York State Parks Department is investigating since it was a grant from them that specified a true visitor center was supposed to be constructed.
