I was Citi-Biking on Hudson Street and saw Drew Nieporent on the sidewalk. I said, “Hey Drew…”. He looked around and said, “Hi Steve.”
This threw mew off, because I have never met Drew, and I thought that my infamously bad memory for names and faces had caused another social gaffe. I thought that I had spotted his brother, Tracy, instead.
I apologized by saying, “I said Drew, I meant Tracy.”.
He said, “You should have said Drew. That’s my name”.
So, to make this long story short, restaurateur Drew knew my name and what I looked like, and we have never met. That is pretty impressive.
