September 11, 2013- Today Battery Park Montessori opened for for the first day of classes. It is located next to the restaurants in the Regatta building on the South Cove. According to the school, “Battery Park Montessori was established to provide neighborhood families with more options for preschool. The new school will provide a warm, nurturing and engaging environment for children ages 2 to 6. The school is being led by Sara Bloomberg, a highly regarded 20-year veteran of Montessori education, who will also be teaching. Founded by Dr. Jennifer Jones, Battery Park Montessori was built based on best practices from her 25 years of experience in the field – including teaching, school development and advising school systems and governments around the world.”
From the website, “Jennifer Jones, Ph.D., Founder and Battery Park City Mom….Dr. Jones has 25 years of experience in school-related development, and management. Her expertise includes school design and build-out, marketing and enrollment, materials and equipment sourcing, curriculum selection, student assessment models, technology purchases, food service and transportation decisions, and compliance with state and regional standards and operational requirements. She has served as a university professor, lobbied at the state level, taught in the classroom, served as headmaster, lectured internationally, and published a book about children and parenting. She holds a Master’s and Ph.D. from Columbia University.
Dr. Jones has lived in Lower Manhattan since 2005 and in Manhattan a total of 11 years. She lives with her 4-year-old son, Jackson, and her husband, Ed, in Battery Park City (Riverwatch).”
My dc attends this preschool. I cannot rave more. Simply amazing. Loving, yet academically ambitious.Highly recommended.
