May 17, 2014- The local politicians in bed with the powerful school unions lost a battle in court. The WSJ reports, “Manhattan Supreme Court Judge Eileen Rakower dismissed a lawsuit by the city’s public advocate seeking to block co-locations of charter schools inside traditional public school buildings. The judge said the public advocate, Letitia James, failed to “exhaust administrative remedies” by going to court rather than waiting for the New York state education commissioner’s review, according to a spokeswoman for Ms. James. Ms. James filed suit in December seeking to block dozens of co-locations of both charter and public schools that had been approved by former Mayor Michael Bloomberg‘s administration. Several city council members and parents also joined Ms. James’ suit.”
