Sequoia tree killed by Hurricane Sandy

Update July 22, 2013- This Sequoia has died and will be removed and replaced with one more sturdy in saltwater conditions.  

May 7, 2013- The sequoia tree seems to be surviving, with green shoots appearing.

SequioaApril 29, 2013- The Metasequoia (dawn redwood) tree at the Northwest corner of the South Cove seems to have been killed by the salt water floods of Hurricane Sandy. A parks conservancy worker said that there might be some hope for it.

The tree has a lot of history for BPC. After 9/11/2001, it was used to anchor offshore barges in the cleanup process.DSC01178DSC01177
