At the Tribeca committee of CB1, Marc Forgione applied for a liquor license to build a new restaurant called Kio. It will be Laotian themed. That seems to be a novel idea and much more interesting than another Italian or French joint. The spices of Loatian food should give the chef, planned to be Soulayphet Schwader, plenty of latitude to be creative.
The location will be near his current steakhouse, down at the Duane Park cabaret dinner theater. DowntownManhattan.TV first reported that Duane Park was relocating to another neighborhood. Mr. Forgione’s team will gut the venue and redesign it. This is something sorely needed as the existing Duane Park has very unlevel floors and other structural problems.
The ultraconservative Tribeca CB1 voted to force a 1:00 AM closing time for Kio. As we have previously reported, “The City that never sleeps” is now a big myth in most of Downtown.
