Update: June 20, 2012
The cart has returned. The operators said that the cart left for a thorough cleaning in preparation for an inspection. When asked how they can pass the upcoming inspection given the size of their cart and the new city regulations (see below), they did not have a good answer, stating, “I do not know. I do not own this (cart).”

The Department of Consumer Affairs passed new regulations limiting the size of vendor carts, such as hotdog carts or doughnut huts. At the Northeast corner of Albany Street and South End Avenue has been a permanent, never leaving, doughnut/coffee hut for years. It is no longer there as of today.
Despite technically being a mobile cart on wheels, the hut never left. The intersection is dangerous enough, and the hut attracted loitering vehicles parked illegally on Albany, obstructing traffic.
BatteryPark.TV was not involved in the eviction of the doughnut hut. The manager of the nearby Hudson Produce was also unaware that the hut was gone. Whether more business is driven to the nearby restaurants, such as Izzy & Nat’s or Hudson produce, remains to be seen. Stay tuned.

That’s sad. My wife would often stop there for a bagel while walking our dogs in the morning and the dogs were always given small bites of lunch meat. It was run by some good guys.
this hut is not the problem …the one across the street is a disgrace…..and attracts alot more attention…..f
