I was scratching my head trying to think of a cheap place for lunch. Nothing at Hudson Eats seemed good, so I went to the Benvenuti pizza and sandwich shop on South End Avenue (This is the new name. The old place, Samantha’s, was shut down by the Health Department and the same owners just re-opened it under a new name).
I suppose that I should have been warned. Inside on the wall is a big sign, “No Refunds”. Obviously, they must have a lot of dissatisfied customers.
I ordered the chicken parm sandwich and took it home. They literally screwed up every aspect of this classic dish.
The bun was stale and rubbery. The breading on the chicken was mushy. The sauce was scant. The cheese was barely there.
Also, the sandwich was not heated in a proper oven. They microwaved it!
I called the shop and spoke with the man who made the sandwich. He was flippant and sarcastically said, “I am sorry you did not like it.”, offering no form of retribution.
Benvenuti is an absolutely disgusting establishment. Beware.
