I finished an episode of this History Channel series of mankind. It relates to where I live right now, which is the Treasure Coast.

If you live here, Florida is not a very sophisticated place compared to New York, Paris, etc. However, it was the center of the most important developments in the last 500 years.

The newly discovered silver in South America made its way to Europe, India, and Asia right off the coast of Florida through the Gulf Stream. There was a huge increase in the money supply because of that.

This wealth completely changed the world. India, for example, had vast wealth consolidated with the emperor. When his wife died, the Taj Mahal was built. Amsterdam and London also exploded.

Spain and Portugal became the wealthiest countries in the world because they were the ones in charge of the South American silver and gold. It took 100 years or so before England successfully pirated the gold and silver ship supply.

Shipments of sugar were also very important. Caribbean and Florida sources of sugar were hugely important as a commodity. That’s how England became powerful.

I’m surprised we don’t see numerous coastal towns in Florida that are 400 years old and historic. The only thing we have is St. Augustine.

I suppose Florida wasn’t a very hospitable place to live. It was a giant swamp full of mosquitoes. There was no air conditioning then. It would be almost impossible to live in South Florida without indoor protection and air conditioning.

Holy cow. I just checked the memory card from my camera. When I saw those eagle-like birds the other day, I pointed the camera and hoped. I got them!They were about 1,000 feet away and 500 feet high.

Google Images says they are bald eagles, but I don’t need that. We have in Ohio a nest of bald eagles about a 1,000 yards from my old house. I know what they look like when they fly. That is why I immediately spotted them.

Also, I filmed bald eagles down here in 2020. We have a pair of Bald Eagles in 2025.
