I saw the Hobbit Part: The Desolation of Smaug. If you are a fan, I would not discourage you from seeing it, but it is a bit gratuitous with the action scenes.

There are unbelievable stunts, and there are hundreds of them. They become mind numbing after a few minutes. Dwarves and elves are doing flips and jumps and dodging blazes. It’s like a pornographic version of the book, in a way.

Also, much of the plot is made up by Peter Jackson and not in the original book. There was no need to change the book at all.

The movie does have some impressive imagery though, particularly inside the Lonely Mountain and pile of treasure. The acting by Martin Freeman (Bilbo) and Ian McKellen (Gandalf) is quite good, as well.

I think the best way to watch this second installment of the unnecessary trilogy is at home, on Blue Ray, with the immense power of the fast forward control.
