There are ways to postpone jury duty in New York that are not well appreciated.
1- Everyone gets an automatic 6-month postponement
2- Once you go to jury duty, if you have a pressing matter that week, such as final exams for college, or even a vacation, you can then go to room 139 at the Supreme Court on 60 Centre Street and they will reschedule for you
3- If you are over the age of 75, you do not have to serve jury duty
