Several years ago, we interviewed Steve Bock, the CEO of Shinola, or so we thought. Sometimes, titles are often self-granted or misleading.
In the NYT today is a lengthy (pay-to-play?) article about Shinola, and nowhere in it does it mention Steve Bock. On LinkedIn, he is listed as “Jack of Many Trades” at Shinola.
It seems as if Mr. Bock has been demoted.
Interestingly, the NYT article discusses the founder, Tom Kartsotis. His main company is the Fossil Group, which makes watches for other brands, such as Armani Exchange and Marc Jacobs.
So, Shinola is just another watch brand for the founder being marketed as “Made in Detroit” Americana.
