(A metaphor for my birth)

This is going to be the year of big 50th anniversary in memoriams for important events. We already have honored the death of Martin Luther King and the film 2001 a Space Odyssey. There will be many more.
The year 1968 was epic. The world saw:
- The Tet offensive and My Lai
- LBJ resign
- The assassination of Robert Kennedy
- Jaqueline Kennedy marry Onassis
- The Democratic convention and riots
- The 747 take its first flight
- Charles Manson
- The Beatles White Album
- The Graduate, Planet of the Apes, and Rosemary’s baby in the theaters, with 2001 a Space Odyssey being perhaps the best film ever, as of 50-years later
- The Black Power fist protest at the Olympics
- Bob Beamon shatter the long jump record, which stood for 23 years
And most importantly, I was born in this year of chaos, and went on to create more chaos.
What’s remarkable is how so many events from 50-years ago are playing out again in 2018. In sports, the football players are kneeling like the Olympians clenching their fists to the national Anthem. There is chaos and uncertainty surrounding the White and House. The nation is embroiled in a longer, more expensive, “Vietnam” of sorts, and so on.
