BatteryPark.TV previously made the point that Battery Park was virtually unscathed by storm Sandy, and that this was ironic since BPC is thought to be the most at risk to flooding. We were quite fortunate indeed. The nearby South Street Seaport, which is still in the dark, was mostly destroyed because it was so close to sea level, and also because the tides were higher on the Lower East side.
Local Channel 4 showed the damage. All of the landmark pubs and restaurants were destroyed by water more than three feet high inside. The South Street Seaport Museum, only recently re-opened, was hit hard.
