Update February 12, 2012
The New York Post covered this false rumor about Lindsay Lohan looking to start a restaurant in an empty commercial storefront in Tribeca. Per below, the rumor was started by a Tribeca blog that receives money from local real estate brokers. Perhaps it was a ploy to spur interest in the area.
In the Post article, they interviewed the landlord who flat out refuted any idea that Lindsay Lohan was looking to rent his space. The article stated, “Triarch’s Stephen Corelli, the landlord, tells us, “I have no idea how Lohan’s name got involved with this . . . The tenant is a very high-end Mexican restaurant with one of the leading chefs in the world. A number of people are concerned about what they perceive to be the potential nuisance of a restaurant. As far as I am concerned, they’re using Lohan’s name to get some coverage so they can develop more controversy. It’s silly . . . this restaurant will be a first-class facility.” Community Board 1 community liaison Evan Lacher says: “There have been a lot of residential petitions against the establishment . . . opposed to the fact that this will be a restaurant.” The brouhaha has become heated enough that a hearing over a liquor license last night was postponed for 30 days.”

The one man blog, TriBeCa Citizen, seems to be jumping the shark seeking clicks and attention. They have posted some very irresponsible and likely untrue hearsay and gossip lately. First, they reported that Hillary and Bill Clinton might be moving to Tribeca. That is very unlikely given Hillary Clinton’s presidential ambitions. (Perhaps it is Roger Clinton?)
Today, they posted a rumor that Lindsay Lohan was in a commercial space looking at it as a possible new restaurant she would open up. Absurd. The author writes a snarky little, “I’m not sure I believe it (but that won’t stop me from mentioning it!)”.
Making these postings more concerning is that they are possibly intentional propaganda meant to stir a false sense of interest in Tribeca real estate. The blog is heavily tilted toward real estate interest special interests and accepts funding from brokers.
The only factual scoops on the site seem to be the ones they lift from us (such as anything they write about Asphalt Green or the ballfields, for the most part). If you want the facts and to be properly informed, keep watching DowntownTV.
