We took a road trip today to taste for ourselves the Bakehouse pancakes we saw on the TV show “Toni On“. The chef/owner is Philippe Bonsignour, and his wife, Maude, also manages. Susan Bonsignour, Philippe’s mother, bakes many of the items.
The service was friendly and competent. The pancakes are unique because in-house-made ricotta cheese is added to the batter, giving them a special taste and moist texture. The fruit is perfectly ripe and displayed. They deliver pure maple syrup, and the bacon is also just right. All in all, they are probably the best pancakes we have ever experienced, and they cost a reasonable $14 (cheap by Manhattan fine dining standards).
Bakehouse is a quick shot by taxi up the West Side Highway. It is worth the trip.
