For the past week, more than 30 elementary and middle school students have been developing their basketball skills at the Léman Manhattan Preparatory School gymnasium under the guidance of former college and pro basketball players.
The students were treated to a surprise visit by Indiana Pacers guard C.J. Watson, who gave the budding basketball stars some tips on their final day of camp.
The camp, organized by Basketball Stars of NY, is run by David Brown, who has coached at Collegiate High School, John Jay College, Susquehanna University, and for the New Heights Basketball organization. Basketball Stars of NY, the city’s leading basketball teaching program, aims to promote skill improvement, teamwork, sportsmanship, communication and accountability for all participants.
A six-year NBA veteran, Watson not only played 80 games last season with the Brooklyn Nets, but was an active volunteer in the New York community.
