September 8, 2013- Acting Principal of Stuyvesant, Jie Zhang, sent this email to parents:
Dear Parent/Guardian of *****:
Tomorrow, I am looking forward to the opening of school and another productive school year. I am writing to you because it has come to my attention that several students at Stuyvesant High School are planning to stage a protest tomorrow morning to express their concern about administrative action involving a school staff member. We have also heard that students are planning to block the entrance to the school building.
The New York City Department of Education Discipline Code makes clear that students are not permitted to engage in conduct that is disruptive or poses a danger to the school community. Students may not block the entrance to the school building, nor are they permitted to miss classes.
Please discuss this with your child and stress the importance of acting as a responsible member of the school community. Any student who engages in disruptive or dangerous behavior will face disciplinary action including, but not limited to, suspension.
My staff and I will be available tomorrow to answer any questions you may have. We are looking forward to another successful year at Stuyvesant High School.
Sincerely,
Jie Zhang
Principal, Stuyvesant High School, Chambers Street
