Primaries expose weaknesses of former power brokers

The recent New York City primary elections have profound implications for the Lower Manhattan local politics. Despite heavy campaigning, most local elections were won by underdogs rather than more established candidates. Much like the Wizard of Oz when his curtain was pulled back, their true level of political influence was exposed.
