Update November 24, 2014- I can no longer recommend this establishment. They are double booking and cram people in like sardines. Tables that should have just one seat per side now have two seats. I had tickets tonight and asked for my money back. I went there for Halloween and it was also a bad experience.

We had the pleasure of visiting the City Winery on Varick Street to watch Simon Townshend play (the brother of The Who’s Pete Townshend). The layout is ideal for a civilized evening of fine wine, food, and music. We highly recommend this establishment.
City Winery is a real winery. They import the grapes from California, then crush them up and ferment them on the spot.
The food looked good, but we did not really give it a try. We just ordered a flatbread pizza, which was nice.
Of course, the best part of the winery is the live music stage. Top acts routinely stop by, like Simon Townshend, below.
Joe’s Pub is a nice venue as well, but we like City Winery a bit better. It is larger and the tables are better situated by the stage.
Thanks for the review! Hope you had a nice night here at City Winery!
