February 6, 2015- The parent company of the NYMEX, located in the building next to the Vesey Street ferry boat slip and Irish Memorial, announced that the commodities trading using humans in the “pit” will be closed. The pit has been operating as a small trading floor for years, ever since electronic trading took over more than five years ago.
The building housing the NYMEX, now owned by Brookfield Place, has been converting into regular office space for the last year. The ground level retail shops have no idea what the future holds for them and are somewhat expecting to be evicted at any time.
