This is interesting. Almost all of these animals in my backyard are dinosaurs in the sense that they survived the Great Extinction 66-million years ago caused by a meteor striking Mexico. The reptiles and birds animals that survived have change very little.
The survivors were alligators, turtles, birds, and small mammals that looked like modern-day opossum. I have each of those.
My Sandhill Cranes look exactly like flying dinosaur fossils.
The alligators back then have not changed from modern-day alligators. This is the 7 to 10-foot gator that showed up yesterday.
Turtles have not changed over 66 million years. I have two of those.
The opossum and other small mammals I see on the trail camera are like the survivors from 66-million years ago. There is a reason you see opossum, raccoons, and rats all over the world. They know how to survive.
This is Jurassic Park where I am living. It is warm enough to allow these reptiles and birds to still live.
