American Express downsizes by using “virtual employees”

It is not well known that the WFC #3 building, which is the home of American Express, has eliminated 20 or more floors and is renovating them to be residential and commercial spaces to sublease. There was only one brief mention of this at a BPCA board meeting last year.

We spoke with an American Express employ who told us that AmEx us part of a growing trend in Corporate America to reduce expensive office space and cost per employee by having them work from home. She called herself a “virtual employee”.
