Have you ever heard of Patch? Not many people have, despite it having the backing of AOL and its Huffington Post, and that is why the AOL CEO sold it yesterday.

Patch was a failed attempt to patch together hyperlocal news blogs around the country. There simply is not enough revenue from online ads for those sites.

There real reason Patch failed was that the content was lousy. In Downtown New York, for example, there are at least six local news blogs. Only BatteryPark.TV and one other site gets any significant viewership each day. We have great original content. The others are nothing but aggregators of other’s content.
