March 20, 2014- The WSJ reports today, that for the first time in 20 years, New York City’s mayor has no real opposition acting as a check and balance to power. Former Comptroller Liu is quoted, “Even when Democratic elected officials had a non-Democratic mayor to criticize (i.e. Giuliani and Bloomberg), there were complaints about lack of council oversight, said John Liu, the Democratic former comptroller who was a Bloomberg critic. He said nonprofit good-government groups and the media also play an accountability role.”
