March 23, Crain’s reports, “Danny Meyer’s USHG is sharing a drop of its secret sauce with the public. A 10-week wine education course the company has offered employees as part of their professional development is now available to anyone willing to swallow the $1,750 fee.
“Understanding Wine,” begins on March 25. Union Square Hospitality Group’s James Beard Award-winning wine director John Ragan will teach the class in partnership with the Institute for Culinary Education. Mr. Ragan is one of just three people in the world who holds a master sommelier title, according to Union Square Hospitality Group. The course will also feature guest speakers, including winemakers, grape growers and other oenophiles at the company.”
The $1,750 fee may seem steep, but if your looking to open a winery or invest in wine, that’s cheap for the kind of profit you’ll receive from this course. There aren’t many oenophile schools/courses that I know of at any mainstream colleges, and the ones that do exist are this expensive or more.
