World’s largest Ferris wheel that was supposed to come to Staten Island now scrapped

Update December 8, 2018- We missed this in October when it was announced but this project is now scrapped, literally. The scraps are being auctioned.

Update August 25, 2015- The parts for the Ferris wheel have arrived and construction has begun.

Update July 8, 2015- The NYT reports that work has begun on the foundation. This is a real project.

October 31, 2013- The Post is reporting that City Council approved plans for the Ferris wheel.

June 13, 2013- The Daily News is reporting, “Community Board 1 signed off on the plans to build the 625-foot New York Wheel as well as the city’s first outlet mall in St. George. The City Council will make the final decision within months…..The New York Wheel, which is set to stand at a massive 625 feet, is slated to be developed with Empire Outlets, which would be the city’s first outlet mall.”
