BatteryPark.TV is now the most viewed original content local news source for the area, by far, and rapidly becoming a go-to source for all of Downtown as well. Using the reliable web tracking source Compete.com, the numbers stack up like this.
For all of the local news sources that cover BPC:
#1 BatteryPark.TV: 20,000 views in November, 2012. There are only 12,000 or so residents in BPC.
#2 The eBroadsheet: 6,000 views in November
#3 The Tribeca Tribune: only 2,800 views in November
For all of Downtown, the numbers stack up like this:
#1 Downtown Alliance: 222,000 views in November. This is a government grant-funded site with a budget of $16 Million (year 2010), top executives making $300,000 or more, and with more than 100 employees. Most of the views to the site are not to get the news, but there is a small news section, so we do include them on our list.
#2 Downtown Express: 165,000 in November. This is one of the several local papers run my NYC Community Media LLC, which also runs The Villager, Lower East Sider, Gay City News, and Chelsea Now
#3 BatteryPark.TV: 20,000 views in November, 2012. Staff of 1, sometimes 2. Revenue of negative $20,000. (with DowntownManhattan.TV launched in December 2012 to begin to cover all of the region)
#4 The eBroadsheet: 6,000 views in November. Listed staff of 5. Revenue estimated to exceed $200,000 per year.
#5 The Tribeca Tribune: only 2,800 views in November. Listed staff of 6.
DNAinfo does not cover Downtown much at all, with only occasional stories, and those views cannot be segregated out from the overall viewership. Other blogs are not listed since they are merely news aggregate farms with no original content.
