I just learned something that explains it all. It was the nidus for the American state-sponsored media news, as I call it.
It all started back in 1987, under Ronald Reagan, when the FCC repealed the Fairness Doctrine. That regulation had stated that broadcast TV and radio must deliver “honest, equitable, and balanced“ coverage of “controversial issues of public importance”.
As soon as it was repealed, radical one-sided radio in the form of Rush Limbaugh was allowed to syndicate. The cable TV partisan channels followed later.
It did not take too long for the broadcast TV news to follow. When an executive sees the financial and ratings success of the one-sided cable news, they will follow suit. Thus, our evening broadcast TV news (or what’s left of it), regardless of the channel, is now presenting one-sided, agenda-driven, news. In other words, it is propaganda by the dictionary definition.
Taking this newfound freedom granted to them in 1987 to the next level, since all ethics were thrown out the window, the news then decided to garner the full protection and power of the White House by embedding relatives in the administrations and spewing White House talking points.
