Why does Battery Park City subsidize the surrounding neighborhoods?

Hi,

Thanks for covering these topics that are not covered by the Broadsheet.

I have lived in BPC for many years and always wondered why BPC residents subsidize the use of amenities that are used by people who may not live here. Obviously, we can’t live behind gates, but BPC residents pay the same amount as non-residents for leagues that use the ball fields and for Asphalt Green (whenever that opens). It seems like BPC taxes subsidize both of these facilities which could not run independently. Fidi and Tribeca residents reap the benefits of these facilities, without having to pay additional tax burden.
