At the CB1 meeting last night, Brookfield Properties, the new operator of the North Cove Marina, gave an update and explained why there is no activity in the marina. Some comments raised concern with BPC residents. Among them was a comment by David Cheikin, Senior Vice President for Leasing at Brookfield Office Properties that stated, “We like the idea…of some of the party ships (using the marina)” (3:40 mark of the video). He was referring specifically to the Hornblower booze cruise boat that has been seen recently docked in the marina.
Over the years, members of the community who live near the marina have been vocal about not allowing noisy ferry boats or party boats use the marina. Ignoring those wishes of the community, in extreme hubris, Mr. Cheikin stated by fiat that they essentially intend to do whatever they wish with their new marina. He said, “This is the program we are going to be launching.” (6:20 mark of the video). In reply, CB1 member and BPC resident Jeff Mihok stated, “So you are not here to listen. You are here to tell us what you want.”.
This prompted another BPC resident and lawyer, Justine Cuccia, to remind the Brookfield team that the marina is official public park space and not commercial property (9:00 mark of the video). She explained how the new shops in Brookfield Place are nice, but too expensive for her to shop in them, and that she lives here in BPC to enjoy the public park space.

I’d like to know who is leading the opposition to this so I can voice my concern. We cannot let this happen!
Wow…this is a bad idea. They are going so upscale with the stores, but they are going to get rid of yachts in favor of booze cruises. Unbelievably bad idea!
Appalling. Onward to the total “touristification” of downtown.
I don’t even get the concept of loud music and binge boozing on a boat! Enough of party cruises: BPC residents don’t want you.

Hi Dr. Greer-
I am sitting in my apartment on a nice Sunday afternoon, the music from the party boat Jewel is literally shaking the floor and windows on the 18th floor.
I don’t see many complaints about this-
other than me just calling the Marco Polo office number or 311 to complain, is there any neighborhood effort to stop these boats from blasting loud music? It usually occurs mid to late evening and is very disturbing.
Just wondered if you have dealt with this before?
Thank you~
Susan
