The details of the elected officials Downtown are covered closely by the press, but few know how the sausage is made at the Community Board. In February, new CB1 members will be appointed by the new Manhattan Borough President, Gale Brewer, and the re-elected city councilwoman Margaret Chin. Both offices split the duties and appoint 50% each of the new CB1 seats made available by term expirations (see table below).
The Chair of the CB1 is Catherine McVay Hughes. Her term expires this April, and Gale Brewer will be deciding whether to retain McVay Hughes or appoint her own soldier to the board.
