Fancy building loses battle to remove Citi Bike rack

Citi bike rack West Thames nightAugust 5, 2015- Crain’s is reporting, “An appeals court has turned down The Plaza’s bid to get rid of a bicycle-sharing rack from a space across from the landmark hotel’s entrance.

The state Supreme Court appellate division’s First Department said Tuesday the city properly reviewed the location. Judges upheld a lower court’s ruling dismissing The Plaza’s lawsuit.

The city Law Department says it’s pleased with the decision.

Plaza representatives haven’t immediately responded to a request for comment. Plaza lawyer Steven Sladkus says he can’t comment on the hotel’s behalf.

The hotel and condominium wants the bright blue Citi Bike rack removed from Grand Army Plaza, a landmark itself.

The Plaza says the 147-foot-long bike station is an advertising-laden, traffic-clogging eyesore. It’s in a former traffic lane.

The city says the spot near Central Park is ideal.
