Lawsuit against Sheldon Silver ends in $500,000 settlement

Sheldon Silver accusers in federal courtUpdate February 6, 2015- The NYT reports that the settlement of this case will result in the state spending more than $500,000 of  your taxpayer dollars to pay of these women who accused Sheldon Silver and his assembly friend Vito of harassing them.  Meanwhile, the BPCA has several sexual harassment problems brewing as a result of actions allegedly by CFO Robert Serpico.

December 2, 2014- The Post reports, “A federal magistrate judge cut disgraced ex-Assemblyman Vito Lopez and Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver a huge break Monday by issuing a gag order in a lawsuit accusing Lopez of groping two former staffers and Silver of aiding a coverup.

Lawyers spent nearly 10 hours in Manhattan federal court negotiating a taxpayer-funded settlement behind closed doors with Magistrate Judge Michael Dolinger.

A settlement would mean Silver and Lopez won’t have to give depositions in the seamy case.

Kevin Mitzer, a lawyer for ex-Lopez aides Victoria Burhans and Chloe Rivera, who say they were repeatedly groped by Lopez, said he couldn’t confirm whether a settlement had been reached because the judge ordered him not to.

Lawyers for the state and Silver also said they told to remain quiet.
