Update October 22, 2013- At the BPCA board meeting, Tessa Huxley of the parks mentioned the sinkhole problem. They do not know the reason for them developing.
September 1, 2013- By Steven E. Greer
After Hurricane Sandy, a sinkhole opened up on the esplanade in South Cove. Now, a sinkhole has formed in the lawn of Rockefeller Park. It is unknown whether the flood waters caused them.
Probably unrelated, sinkholes are also forming on the streets of BPC. ConEd recently completed work on Battery Place, and a sinkhole has opened in the same spot as thier excavation. On South End Avenue near West Thames, a sinkhole has been forming and reforming, despite DOT repairs.
