This 12-year-old barrier installed by the BPCA after 9/11 is obstructing the only bike thoroughfare connecting Downtown to the Hudson on the pathway for bicycles. There is no reason for it. It is protecting nothing and should be removed.
It blocks vehicles from entering the lower esplanade to the marina, but high concrete barriers have always been in place that would prevent bad guys from taking trucks next to the WFC buildings. Moreover, the big banks, such as Merrill Lynch, have left the WFC and the complex will soon be residential and retail.
We spoke with a Brookfield security manager and they agreed with our sentiment. The man mentioned that round steel stanchions would be better and allow bikes to ride through.
This is a backdoor into the WFC. If this was removed you could drive a vehicle across North Cove to the area of North End Ave behind the other WFC barricades. Doubt you will ever see it removed
Nope, there are high barriers from the esplanade, this only protects the marina. Moreover, the WFC is no longer a target. Banks are gone, just restuarants
People are so used to this no one questions it
