Retired middle-class are feeling the pinch

I have seen several examples of hardship over the last few days that tell me even the well-off retired middle-class in Florida are having trouble making ends meet. This is unusual. During the lockdowns of 2020, the same people were able to golf at expensive courses and seemed to be unscathed.

Last night, I was at a Home Depot and saw a retired couple I recognized from years ago when I lived inside the PGA community. They were very interested in my new location because they cannot afford the $500/month HOA fee.

Then, I was in the Post Office and I saw a retired couple shipping several boxes of used golf clubs. I inquired. They were selling them on eBay.

Before that, a retired couple, neighbors at my old Jupiter home, are moving because their adjustable rate mortgage is too much. They are taking their equity and downsizing in another state.

In the news is how it has never been more expensive in the history of this country to own a house. Also, normal people (i.e., not drug addicts) are becoming homeless at high rates.

This is what was seen during the Great Depression. It could be the Greater Depression this time.
