July 30, 2015- Daily News reports, “David Azurmendi, who had been working at the exclusive Léman Manhattan Preparatory School, was charged with third-degree rape, sources said.
Azurmendi, 34, was hit with the potentially career-crushing charge just as he was supposed to start a new gig at The Greenwood School, an expensive private boarding school for boys in Putney, Vt., the sources added.
The married father of two had taught at Léman for three years and his last day on that job was June 19 — the same day he allegedly gave an illegal birds and bees lesson to the 16-year-old girl, they said.
Tipped off by the school principal, cops cornered Azurmendi at his home in Summit, N.J. They slapped the cuffs on him after he admitted to investigators at the Manhattan Specials Victims unit he had sex with the girl, sources said.
Azurmendi allegedly crossed the line after the victim invited him to meet her and some friends at the Lit Lounge, an artsy hot spot on Second Ave., sources said.
The teenager admitted she had been drinking before she joined Azurmendi in the bathroom, they said.
The illegal alleged rendezvous might have remained their secret if the teen didn’t blab about it to a male friend, sources said. He, in turn, told the principal who sicced the cops on Azurmendi.
The victim told police Azurmendi was not her teacher and that she met him through a friend who was in his home room, sources said.”
