There is a bad upper respiratory virus going around (not influenza) that tends to linger and cause the creeping crud. The fatigue and malaise is caused by the lungs being affected generating interleukin-1.
If you have this, and are coughing for more than a few days, then it is appropriate to take antibiotics. Azithromycin (branded as Z-Pack) is likely the antibiotic you need. Call your doctor.
The Z-pack therapy should resolve the infection within 12-hours and relive the malaise. If you tough it out without antibiotics, you can cough and hack for weeks.
Note: I am taking my own advice right now.
