Kyle Kimball, heads up the EDC for New York City

Perhaps due to the loss of Mayor Bloomberg’s appointed head to run the EDC, real-estate-friendly Kyle Kimball, the EDC is now backing away from plans to secretly destroy the landmarked buildings on the seaport, according to Downtown Express. Crain’s had originally leaked secret EDC documents showing that the Tin Building and New Market Building were slated for total demolition, despite the CB1 and local officials being told otherwise by the EDC. Now, at a recent CB1 meeting, EDC representatives have claimed that only the rear portion of the buildings will be torn down.

BatteryPark.TV previously speculated whether the departure of real-estate crony Mr. Kimball as head of the EDC would be a setback for Bill Ackman and his Howard Hughes Corp. Seaport condo-building plans. Mr. Ackman certainly has genuine opposition from Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer, and Mr. Kimball was a vital ally to the Howard Hughes team.
