October 24, 2015- The website for Rosa Mexicano announced that the Tribeca location on Murray Street will open this week.
The WSJ PR-placed section posted, “While higher-end and regionally influenced Mexican dining has made its mark in New York City over the past few years, one of the restaurants that led the way is planning on expanding its footprint.
Rosa Mexicano, whose roots go back to 1984, is expected to open its fourth New York location later this month at 41 Murray St. in Tribeca, but it is one with a slightly different format: There will be a bar, dubbed Masa y Agave at Rosa Mexicano, with a connection to the restaurant as well as its own entrance.
“Masa” refers to the cornmeal dough that is central to Mexican cooking, and both the bar and the restaurant, which will focus on casual, cantina-style fare, will grind the corn in-house. “Agave” refers to the plant that is the basis for tequila, Mexico’s signature spirit.
At Masa y Agave, however, the bar’s offerings will include nearly 400 different brands of agave spirits, including tequila but also mescal, raicilla and sotol.
Rose Mexicano’s chief executive Tom Dillon said that the agave menu is the largest in New York and one of the largest in the country. But for those who like to keep things simple, the bar and restaurant will still pour a traditional margarita. Rosa Mexicano, 41 Murray St.; rosamexicano.com.”
