Wealthy tenants at 22 River Houses being evicted as building converts to condo

22_River_grass_2Update March 11, 2014- It seems that Big Real Estate will win in this dispute. The main vocal opposition, Seth Kyle, gave up and signed a lease in a FiDi apartment. When asked whether anyone else had organized and planned to fight, he replied, “Nope seems like a lost cause to be honest the Facebook group has no real leader and I was the most vocal….The Man wins.”.

Seth Kyle and his wife and kids have lived in the Battery Park City neighborhood since 1999. Since then, they have been forced to leave their apartment twice as their buildings have been converted from rental to condo (first at 225 Rector Place, then 333 Rector Place). He is now facing his third eviction from his current apartment in 22 River Terrace, as it too is converting to condo. He has lived at his current address for six years. Continue reading

Inspired by BP.TV, Gateway tenants take action into their own hands

BatteryPark.TV has been the only source to report on the conflicts of interest of the leaders of the Gateway Plaza Tenants Association (GPTA) that have led to inaction in correcting the poor infrastructure that causes freezing conditions in the winter, and huge AC bills in the summer. The local adverting flier, the Broadsheet (BS), which is published from an apartment inside Gateway Plaza, has not written about the feckless GPTA in a critical way.

Now, the residents of Gateway have had enough and are taking action into their own hands. A group of tenants have hired lawyer Ken Perry, who also lives in Gateway Plaza, to represents them in a lawsuit against LeFrak. Continue reading
