Illegal taxi lineup forms all around Goldman Sachs

Livery cab steals $1,000 from Ritz-Carlton Downtown guest
October 10, 2013- DNAinfo is reporting that a livery cab driver stole $1,000 from a passenger he was driving to the Downtown Ritz-Carlton. BatteryPark.TV has previously reported on the problem of livery cabs loitering on residential streets waiting for corporate dispatchers. Air pollution causes lung cancer, World Health Organization says

Bob Townley claims to serve BPC more than any other organization

BatteryPark.TV previously reported that Bob Townley was making a play for the Stuyvesant community center, possibly as a way to angle his way in to getting back the large grants from the BPCA that recently were cut off. Recall, his Manhattan Youth was receiving at least $250,000 a year in free money from the BPCA even though his community center is in Tribeca, not BPC.

Thieves violently assault man in Battery Park for his iPhone
November 6, 2013- DNAinfo reports that a drunk man was surrounded by four men in baseball caps, then beaten as they stole his iPhone. CB1’s Anthony Notaro regurgitates BPCA excuses for not funding traffic lights
Update November 5, 2013- At the November 4th CB1 meeting, Anthony Notaro explains how he blindly accepts the BPCA’s excuse for not funding traffic lights in unsafe zones of south BPC, despite having paid for the traffic lights on North End Ave by Goldman Sachs. The explanation he regurgitates is actually a bogus one. The lights on Murray and North End were funded and built only a year ago, long after the city took control of the streets. Therefore, the BPCA explanation breaks down.
Once again, the CB1 is more interested in carrying water for the BPCA rather than fighting for what is best for the community. Continue reading

City DOT rejects Margaret Chin’s “Slow Zone” application for BPC

Exclusive: A source of funds for the Stuyvesant Community Center

The Battery Park City subcommittee of the CB1 met at Asphalt Green tonight. The main topic was the planned closure of the Stuyvesant Community center (which for some reason suddenly has the attention of Sheldon Silver and his soldier Bob Townley). Paul Goldstein from Silver’s office began with a history of how the agreement between the BPCA and Department of Education came to be, which gives the community access to the gyms and pools of the high school (see video for the lengthy discussion).

BPCA questions whether to pay for Irish Memorial upkeep
November 2, 2013- By Steven E. Greer
After years of neglect, failing to even repair a gaping hole in the Irish Memorial wall caused by a car accident, the BPCA board finally budgeted into the F2014 plans repairs to the Irish Memorial. However, during the October 22nd meeting, the BPCA indicated that it might no longer fund for the upkeep of the memorial.
