The “Support dog” scam now invades jet planes
November 16, 2013- The NY Times reports, “Classifying animals as emotional support animals has long been permitted under antidiscrimination laws, allowing owners to take them into restaurants and shops or to residential buildings that have no-pet policies. To demonstrate the need for an emotional support animal, the animal’s owner needs a letter from a mental health professional.
But their presence on airplanes is increasingly facing a backlash from flight attendants, passengers with allergies and owners of service animals, like Seeing Eye dogs, who say that airplane cabins have become crowded with uncaged animals who have no business being there. Continue reading

November 14, 2013- Governor Cuomo finally signed A8031. The Villager reports, “On the same day that around 200 Lower West Side residents gathered to discuss their fears about a bill that would allow the transfer and sale of Hudson River Park’s air rights, Governor Andrew Cuomo finally signed the bill into law. Andrew Berman, executive director of the Greenwich Village Society for Historic Preservation, had just finished his introductory speech at Wednesday’s meeting, around 7 p.m., when word came that Cuomo had signed the bill. (It was The Villager that alerted Berman by e-mail after having been informed by a spokesperson for the Hudson River Park Trust that the governor had approved the bill. Assemblymember Richard Gottfried also confirmed to The Villager that the governor had O.K.’d the bill.)”

November 13, 2013- The press is reporting with fanfare that the Silvertein Properties 4 WTC building has officially opened. The new outer-borough green cabs are a hit
November 12, 2013- Livery cabs are out of control, hustling people for cash fares anywhere a corporate tower is located. In an effort to get the chaos under control, and also compete with the companies that own the taxi medallions (which Mayor Bloomberg believes enjoy an unhealthy monopoly over taxi services), the mayor created green livery cabs in August.

Exclusive: Inspector General of Homeland Security investigates BPCA
Update November 10, 2013- The NY Post called us about the story, below, and ran their own version today, “The head of the Battery Park City Authority admitted he intentionally allowed Hurricane Sandy floodwaters to inundate a historic city pier — a controversial move that could soak taxpayers. Dennis Mehiel, speaking to the authority’s board at an Oct. 22 meeting, admitted workers were ordered to remove sandbags from the doors and windows of Pier A because he didn’t want the barricade to trap seawater inside. “It just seemed like a fraudulent FEMA claim. None of it made sense to me,” said Dr. Steven Greer, a surgeon and local activist who attended the meeting.”
Since FEMA and Homeland Security would not comment on the ongoing investigation, the editors decided to remove references to that aspect of the story.

Helicopter traffic over Hudson River increases 600% under Bloomberg era
October 25, 2013- A NJ source has a nice article on the out-of-control tourist helicopter noise plaguing humans who reside along the East River and Hudson River. Under the Bloomberg administration, the number of helicopter flights per days has increased from 100 to 600. (Mayor Bloomberg is a pilot himself and advocate for private planes and helicopters.)
