What will they remember from the Bloomberg administration 30-years from now?

In the year 2043, when Michael Bloomberg will be 101 years old (he is too healthy to die), what will people remember then as accomplishments of the Bloomberg administration? Thirty years ago, 1983, when Ed Koch was mayor, most New Yorkers remember those days as the city being a place of high crime recovering from the brink of bankruptcy. Then, the David Dinkins era was one of racial healing, followed by the Giuliani era, remembered for the reduction in crime followed and September 11th, 2001.
With Mayor Bloomberg set to leave office on January 1st, all of the newspapers in town are writing opinion pieces trying to encapsulate the important hits and misses from the Bloomberg administration. This is how I think Mayor Mike will be remembered in 2043: Continue reading

Flip phones are the new cool phone
December 30, 2013- With the news about the Fed’s NSA spying on your cell phones, then Google’s ability to literally track your movements through GPS, the old fashioned flip phone is coming back in style. People in the know, such as CEO’s of banks and financial gurus, have flip phones now.
More importantly, iPhones are such a liquid asset in the black market that they are getting the owners of those phones violently mugged. The old flip phone is your best defense against felonious assault.

December 23, 2013– God bless em, our bumbling friends at the WSJ have taken their ideas once again from BatteryPark.TV and reported on the new Brookfield Place, interviewing none other than ed Hogan, just as we did in November.
In today’s paper, “Luxury retailers’ storefronts—which function as banners for their brands—will be visible along West Street, a critical factor to wooing high-end merchants, said Edward P. Hogan, Brookfield’s national director of retail leasing. Michael Kors, Theory and Calypso St. Barth are some of the other brands that have signed leases. “Luxury brands have no intention of putting their flags underground,” Mr. Hogan said. “It’s important to have a street presence.” Continue reading
